La version japonaise de Yahoo rapporte que Square Enix désire créer de nouvelles grosses franchises. Le président Yoichi Wada a affirmé que la compagnie veut que le nombre passe de trois (Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts) à huit. L’objectif est que ces huit franchises se vendent à au moins deux millions de copies lors de la sortie de chaque jeu.
Déjà, deux à trois gros jeux seraient en préparation, avec des lancements prévus à la fin de 2010 ou en 2011. Il est probable que certains de ces jeux proviendront d’Eidos, récemment acquis par Square Enix. On pense notamment à Tomb Raider, Deus Ex et Hitman.

September 29, 2009 – Square-Enix wants to build its portfolio of established, multi-million selling gaming franchises, and hopes to do so when it releases ‘two or three’ new titles in the coming years.
Speaking to Reuters Japan (via Siliconera), Square-Enix President Yoichi Wada said the company has a few big titles in the works that he believes can be put on the same pedestal as its own Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy franchises. While he obviously wouldn’t divulge specific details, Wada did say these new titles are expected to be released late next year, or early 2011.
Wada would continue to say that Square-Enix hopes to have eight major franchises, each with the capability of selling two million copies, and could release one title every quarter. As pointed out, Square-Enix’s acquisition of Eidos Interactive means these ‘new titles’ may not be your traditional, spiky-haired RPG’s the company is known for.
The company also has high expectations for its long-awaited Final Fantasy XIII. Wada believes the multi-platform title can sell over six million copies worldwide.
